Create a work order
This workflow shows you how to create a work order manually. Use it for orders that do not come from a connected external system — for imports from files, see Import work orders.
Role: Administrator
Prerequisites
- Your account has the Work Orders And Items permission.
- The items of the order exist — see Manage items.
Steps
- Open Management > Work orders.
- Click Create. The Create work order page opens.
- Set the Due date. The due date also determines the processing priority of the order.
- Optionally set the Customer required delivery date and enter a Description.
- Click Add item and select an item for the picking list.
- Enter the requested amount for the item. If lot number tracking is enabled in the general settings, also enter the Lot number.
- Repeat the previous two steps for every item of the order.
- Click Create. The work order appears in the list with status New.
Your installation caps how many positions one work order may hold, how many locations it may occupy at once, and the two multiplied. Creating or editing a work order that would grow it past a limit is refused as a whole, and the message names the limit that was reached:
| Limit reached | Message |
|---|---|
| Positions | The work order would hold more requests than allowed. Reduce the number of requests and retry. |
| Locations | The work order would occupy more locations than allowed. Detach it from some locations and retry. |
| Positions multiplied by locations | The work order would hold too many requests across too many locations at once. Reduce either the number of requests or the number of locations and retry. |
Cancelled positions count towards the limit. Only growth is refused: a work order that is already above a limit stays editable, and detaching it, cancelling a position, or replacing a full container is never blocked.
Result
The work order is created with origin oneGRID System and status New, and operators can process it — see Pick a work order.
